There’s something uniquely special that happens when a photographer sits on the other side of the camera. When Kloeigh reached out to book her maternity session, I was thrilled – not just because I’d get to photograph her celebrating baby number three, but because she’s a fellow photographer herself.
And let me tell you, this session did not disappoint.
I love when photographers come in for sessions because there’s this unspoken understanding between us. We both know what makes a great image. We both understand lighting, composition, and the magic that happens when everything comes together just right.
But more than that, there’s a freedom that comes with photographing another photographer. Kloeigh trusted me completely, which gave me permission to experiment, to try new things, to push my creative boundaries in ways I might not normally do.
That trust? It’s a gift.
Midway through our session, I decided to try something different. My studio has this beautiful dormer area that I’ve photographed in countless times, but I’d always positioned clients facing one particular direction to catch the light.
This time, I turned Kloeigh to face the opposite direction.
The difference was stunning. The light wrapped around her differently, creating this soft, intimate glow. We incorporated what I call the “leg out” pose – where she extended one leg, creating beautiful lines while simultaneously bringing this incredibly intimate feel to the images.
It was one of those moments where you look through the camera and just know you’ve discovered something special. As a photographer, Kloeigh saw it too. I could see the excitement in her eyes as we reviewed the back of the camera together, both of us geeking out over the light and composition.
That’s the beauty of creative collaboration – we were both fully present in creating something beautiful.
What made this session even more meaningful was the story behind it. Kloeigh is welcoming her third baby, a little girl, and there’s something about that third-time-around confidence mixed with the wonder of creating new life that just radiates from an expecting mother.
She wasn’t nervous about how to pose or what to do. She understood the process, trusted the creative vision, and simply allowed herself to be present in celebrating this moment in her journey to motherhood.
Photographing her wasn’t just about capturing beautiful maternity images – it was about documenting this particular chapter in her story as a mother of three, as a creative professional, as a woman embracing all the changes and beauty that come with pregnancy.
I share Kloeigh’s session because it reminds me why I love what I do. Yes, the technical aspects of photography matter – the light, the composition, the settings. But what really makes an image special is the connection, the trust, and the willingness to create something together.
When two photographers collaborate, there’s this beautiful synergy that happens. We speak the same visual language. We both understand that sometimes the best images come from trying something new, from turning in a different direction, from taking creative risks.
And the result? Images that feel intimate, genuine, and distinctly beautiful.
To Kloeigh: thank you for trusting me with this important moment in your life. Thank you for bringing your creative energy and understanding to our session. And thank you for reminding me that some of the best work happens when we give each other permission to experiment and create freely.
Your little girl is so lucky to have a mama who sees beauty in everything and isn’t afraid to try new things. I can’t wait to meet her when she arrives!
