This adorable family of five came into my studio for their newborn session when their baby was about 2 months old – and it was absolutely perfect!

I know you’ll read online that newborn photos need to happen in the first 7-10 days, but here’s what I’ve learned after years of photographing babies: it’s never too late to capture those precious early moments with your little one.

At 2 months, this sweet baby was still so tiny and new, but mom and dad were settled into their rhythm as parents. They felt confident and ready to enjoy the experience, rather than feeling overwhelmed by adding one more thing to those chaotic early weeks.

Why Later Can Be Better

By this stage, parents are more comfortable stepping in front of the camera, and the short drive to the studio feels like a refreshing outing rather than a stressful task. You’re usually so ready for a reason to get out of the house by then!

Your baby is still very much in that precious newborn phase – all those sweet expressions, tiny details, and snuggly moments that make these photos so special. The magic doesn’t disappear at some arbitrary timeline.

This Session Was Pure Joy

Watching this family during their session reminded me exactly why I love what I do. Little one was alert and curious, giving us the sweetest wide-eyed looks, while mom and dad just melted with every smile and coo. The natural light in my studio created the most beautiful, soft glow around this little family.
